COMMUNITY ART CONTEST
Community fundraising is a core element of Downtown Market's mission. One way we do that is by partnering with local organizations to host art contests between events.
Participants are given a theme to inspire their art, which is then judged by the Downtown Market crew. The winning entry is printed on archival-quality paper graphically merged with a piece of history from their home town. They are sold to the public as posters at our multi-cultural events and by contacting us. Thirty percent of the proceeds are donated to the partnering organization or a cause of their choice!
Philipsburg Public Schools
Our first contest was held in September with Philipsburg Public Schools. Kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Kanduch, invited her class to create art that embodies Downtown Market themes of Community, Kindness, and Happiness. Entries from students Brantley and Weston were so impressive the judges had to call a tie! This unique and whimsical artwork was created by students Brantley Stephenson and Weston Galiher, of Philipsburg Public Schools. Brantley and Weston vividly captured the Downtown Market themes of Community, Kindness, and Happiness.
Downtown Market treated the whole class to a celebratory pizza party with awards and gifts for the winners, all generously donated by local businesses. Best of all, sales from Brantley and Weston's art will fund new art supplies for their school!
We couldn't be more proud to collaborate with and feature their wonderful artwork!

Las Vegas Academy - Mariachi Department
Our second contest was supported by the Las Vegas Academy high school classroom of Ms. Carroll. Las Vegas Academy of the Arts (LVA) High School has a national award-winning mariachi program for which students audition and are accepted only if they meet the highest-quality talent requirements. Unfortunately, many of their most skilled and hard-working students come from families of low-income homes. This makes it extremely difficult for some students to travel to national competitions, and the department is forced to hold fundraisers or not compete at all for national awards that they can undoubtedly win.
The winning student, Dana McGee, is generously donating her winnings to LVA's Mariachi Department to ensure that every student is able to go and compete. LVA and Downtown Market are so proud of and incredibly thankful to Dana for her beautiful contribution. She was presented with a personal certificate, locally made treats and gifts. Thank you Dana for helping a great cause.

Rogue Valley Non-Profits
The Third contest was supported by a concerned citizen of Central Point Oregon who chose to help the survivors affected by the Almeda fire through the rogue valley.
The Rogue Valley Almeda fire of 2020 destroyed what has been reported 2600 homes between Ashland, Talent, Phoenix, and Medford.
This tragedy brings communities together and being states apart we are honored to see winner, three-year old, Bowen Chanquet’s “Resilience” Art piece on multiple archival news prints from the area.
Four different versions exist: front page from Ashland weekly tidings, Central point Herald, advertisement page from Ashland tidings, and the Polk county post.
Bowen received a personal certificate, locally made treats and gifts, and dueling Nerf guns So he can play with his family and friends!
Bowen‘s winning piece is helping support the Rogue Valley nonprofits dedicated to the families recovery from the Almeda fire.
